Obesity has reached epidemic proportions, with more than half of European adults and about one in five children classified as overweight or obese1, 2. Obesity in children and adults arises from the interaction of multiple genes and environmental factors and this complex underlying etiology makes the prevention and treatment of obesity particularly challenging.
