EV’s should preferably use electricity from new renewable energy sources such as PV and wind. If not, the CO2 benefit is either minor or negligible. Using nuclear power plants for charging EV’s might lead to a bad image of EV’s. A close link to PV and wind power is therefore in the interest of the promoters of EV’s. The combination of renewables with EV’s is especially interesting, as EV’s can profit from very low electricity prices and other advantages of resulting in this combination. Using PV electricity to replace fossil fuels, a valuable resource, spilled by using it for inefficient processes, results in a big leverage effect. We can avoid the huge losses of those processes by replacing them with a highly efficient electric driven process. This increases the value of PV electricity even more. This is especially the case for a high number of consumers like heating and hot water systems using heat pumps. Heating systems are mainly running in the winter season –exactly when PV systems generate less overproduction. So the best new consumer for PV is the “electric vehicle EV” as its consumption matches much better with the production of electricity by PV. This leads to an additional advantage in the marketing for EV’s.
