La collezione musicale di Giuseppe Sigismondo (1739-1826) costituisce il nucleo fondante della prima biblioteca musicale napoletana, voluta nel 1794 dai governatori del Conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini. Sigismondo – archivista dell’istituzione dal 1794 al 1826 – contribuì in modo importante alla fondazione e all’accrescimento della collezione libraria suggerendo acquisti e donando egli stesso molte partiture. La maggior parte della sua collezione musicale, tuttavia, giunse in biblioteca dopo la sua morte, come proverebbe un documento rinvenuto negli anni Novanta. Il documento, datato 1827, consiste in un inventario e vi sono citati settantuno manoscritti di cantate e serenate composte da Durante, Jommelli, Leo, Pergolesi, Porpora, Scarlatti, Vinci ecc. Questo saggio indaga sia la storia della collezione di Sigismondo, sia quella dei testimoni di cantate a lui appartenuti, oggi custoditi nella Biblioteca del Conservatorio “San Pietro a Majella” di Napoli. § The musical collection of Giuseppe Sigismondo (1739-1826) forms the core of the first Neapolitan music library, established in 1794 from the governors of the Conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini. Sigismondo – archivist of the institution from 1794 to 1826 – essentially contributed to increasing the library collection with suggestions and gifts, but the most of his music’s books arrived in the library after his death, as an inventory found in the ’90s testified. In this inventory, dated 1827, seventy-one manuscripts of cantatas and serenatas composed by Durante, Jommelli, Leo, Pergolesi, Porpora, Scarlatti, Vinci etc., of paramount interest among scholars of Neapolitan music, are quoted. This essay focuses both on the history of the collection and the cantatas preserved in it, now in the Biblioteca del Conservatorio “San Pietro a Majella” of Naples.
