Historical performance research based on audio documents is often forced to rely on subjective impressions rather than scientific data when appropriate methods to visualise the details of acoustic recordings are not available. In this paper, the potential of computer-based interpretation research will be demonstrated, using examples from the Joachim tradition compared to other recordings. Different graphic representations of brief passages will be used to demonstrate characteristics of agogical and technical/instrumental procedures and decisions.
