Abstract
After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, private accommodation became a key element of the official reception policy for refugees in Switzerland for the first time and helped to prevent the asylum system from becoming overburdened (Strauss et al. 2023). This project investigated
whether and in what way private accommodation facilitates the arrival of refugees and promotes social integration. We investigated how refugees and “host families” experienced private accommodation. To this end, we conducted qualitative interviews with both "host families" and Ukrainians. In addition, we conducted a quantitative online survey in winter 2022 in collaborationwith the Swiss Refugee Council (SFH) to ask the "host families" about their general experience ofliving with the refugees.
