Abstract
This is a 4-part series on the history of computer hacking. The articles cover the origins of the words 'hacker' and 'hacking' and describe the early phone phreaking community. The era of dial-up modem and BBS hacking is described. The series continues with coverage of computer viruses, malware, and various Internet attacks observed up to the present day.
