Note
The symposium “Aufbruchstimmung” – Wind Music and Social Movements in the 19th Century in the Lake Constance Region was held on September 4-5, 2025, in the Vorarlberg State Archives in Bregenz, Austria, jointly organized by Bern Academy of Arts and the Vorarlberg State Library. It convened scholars and practitioners to explore the interplay between wind bands (Blasmusik) and the transformative social currents of the nineteenth century. Drawing on fast-paced changes in the early 19th century in the Lake Constance region, the event examined how wind music emerged as a cultural force amid liberal awakenings, associational life, and political shifts.
