Abstract
Stools uprooting in abandoned chestnut coppice forests challenge foresters in the formulation of appropriated selvicoltural interventions, especially in protection forests. Based on the results of a study on the temporal dynamic of root distribution in three different types of selvicoltural regimes, we discuss a new approach for the planification of forest interventions targeting to the optimization of the protection function against shallow landslides.
