Note
limestone blocks reveal a rich soundscape, somewhere between a lithophone instrument, a sound lab, and a living ecosystem carved by water erosion. Saouli's comments emerged during conversations between the two artists, in which “sound-in-itself” came to be differentiated with the particularly situated notion of “stonesound”, more attuned to lithic affect and to a relational understanding of sound and listening.
Abdeljalil Saouli
Born in 1984 in Fechtala in Morocco, Abdeljalil Saouli graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts of Tetouan. He lives in Mulay Bouchta and creates sculptures and installations using grass paste, clay, wood, and metal. He listens to a nature that regenerates from its own decay. The material is shaped, then returned to its own process where oxidation, bacteria, fungi finish the creative work. Website: saouliabdeljalil.wixsite.com/saouliabdeljalil
Gilles Aubry
