Espacios, exhibiciones y sentidos en torno a lo fotográfico durante los ochenta en Argentina

This article examines photographic exhibitions as key sites for understanding how photography has been displayed, mediated, and debated within specific cultural frameworks. It argues that analyzing the emergence of new spaces for photographic production and the circulation of related discourses provides critical insight into evolving issues surrounding photographic practices and modes of exhibition. Focusing on the 1980s in La Plata and Buenos Aires, the study identifies this period as a moment of significant expansion in photography-related initiatives, including not only exhibition venues but also seminars, conferences, and discussion groups. This proliferation reflects a renewed engagement with photography in the public sphere, positioning it as a distinct medium of aesthetic production. At the same time, photography became embedded across diverse institutional and cultural contexts, shaped by actors with differing perspectives, traditions, and approaches to public intervention.
