Managing thrips in strawberries: do insecticide-free options work? A systematic review

Controlling thrips in strawberries is becoming harder due to rising temperatures, the legal ban on many active compounds and the development of resistances to insecticides.
The aims of this study were to :
- list the tools already tested on strawberries;
- compare their effectiveness;
- and identify avenues for future research.
Methods: We conducted a systematic review in Web of Science using the search string (‘*thrip*’ OR ‘Frankliniella’ OR ‘Thysanoptera’) AND (‘strawberr*’ OR ‘Fragaria’). We performed a qualitative review of all 55 articles that had at least one trial on whole plants, and then conducted a meta-analysis with all studies that included a negative control.
