Option assistierter Suizid: wann genug ist, entscheide ich

The question of whether and under what circumstances assisted suicide is not only in line with the law, but ethically legitimate beyond the legal dimension, is controversially debated. The discussion is mainly about fundamental issues of freedom, self-determination, dignity, quality of life and morality. Depending on the interpretation of these values, the interpretations may vary. The social aspect is also central: on the one hand, there is concern of an increasing pressure towards shortening fragile life in an ageing society; on the other hand, there is criticism that authorities and gatekeepers restrict access to the lethal drugs, thus unduly restraining individual free will.
At the core of the book are forty narrative interviews with dialogue partners who have reported on their respective decision-making processes in connection with the option of assisted suicide. The background of the values that guide them were also discussed, while the analysis of the interview transcripts is embedded in a larger theoretical framework. This results in a differentiated picture in which convergences, but also divergences, emerge. The picture composed of the interviews embedded in a wider horizon is intended to encourage a debate on the topic as free of ideology as possible, as well as to help with orientation.
