Abstract
The aim of this research project is to update contemporary music qualifications, which no longer correspond to current transdisciplinary practices. Therefore, this research project is centered around the question to what extent do co-creative intermedial practices enable students’ artistic development? In an elective course, students developed their own performances. The project was examined using situational analysis (Clarke, 2012; Clarke et al., 2018). Music students could gain a sense of confidence and autonomy in their extended artistic abilities through collaborative work among peers with alternative uses of musical instruments, free improvisation, curating, skillful use of language as well as new understandings of quality. These findings could call for a new understanding of the role of lecturers.
