Abstract
Welding of wood is an innovative jointing procedure that offers a lot of advantages over traditional gluing and mechanical fastening. Recent researchers have shown that the technique can be successful used to manufacture high quality environmentally-friendly wood joints, without any adhesive or additional chemicals. Adhesion of the wood joint surfaces is considered to be the result of melting and flowing of some amorphous cells-interconnecting polymers such as lignin and hemicelluloses. Thus, the final proprieties of the welded connections mainly depend on the welding parameters and wood properties. This paper reports on the latest progress made in both research and implementation of the developed technique.
