Unzählige Bilder führen uns seit einem Jahr täglich die vielen Facetten der Pandemie vor Augen. Jann Jenatsch, stv. Geschäftsführer der Presseagentur Keystone-SDA, erörtert im Interview, welchen Auswahlkriterien Pressebilder zugrunde liegen und welche Bilder der Krise in unseren Köpfen haften bleiben werden.

Ob in der Notaufnahme eines Akutkrankenhauses, in der psychiatrischen Klinik oder im Altersheim: Das räumliche Umfeld hat einen Einfluss auf Pflege- und Behandlungsprozesse sowie auf das Befinden von Versorgungsnutzenden und Gesundheitspersonal. Inwiefern die Gestaltung des räumlichen Umfelds auch Aggression fördern oder gar auslösen kann, wird in diesem Vortrag anhand von Projektbeispielen der interdisziplinären Arbeitsgruppe Health Care Communication Design HCCD der Berner Fachhochschule vorgestellt. Die Arbeitsgruppe besteht seit 2007 und vereint Forschende aus den Bereichen Design, Architektur, Pflege, Wirtschaft und Medizininformatik. Gemeinsam forschen sie zu Fragestellungen an der Schnittstelle zwischen Design und Gesundheit – seit diesem Jahr auch am neu gegründeten Swiss Center for Design and Health (SCDH).

A collaborative project of the US city of Baltimore shows ways to create a safe environment for public life despite the corona pandemic. An approach that could also be taken up here in Switzerland.

Context: Clear and comprehensible communication is essential in the hospital setting and is crucial for the well-being of patients. However, maintaining cost-effective health care systems while ensuring efficient communication, is particularly challenging for healthcare staff. This is a relevant issue, especially when migrant patients are involved. Language barriers constrain medical treatment, can endanger patients’ safety and are a notable challenge to hospital staff, especially to nurses. To provide appropriate treatment, staff must often rely on communication aids. Aim: The aim of this project was to research which criteria were most important in the development of digital communication aids, to improve the care of paediatric patients in the hospital setting. Research question: What requirements do nurses have regarding communication aids in the care of migrant paediatric patients and their relatives? Methods: This paper is the subsequent part of a previously-conducted (Kaufmann et al. 2020). The initial study was conducted by the same interdisciplinary team consisting of design and nursing researchers. It utilized Thematic Analysis qualitative research methodology. The following steps of data collection were undertaken: (1) literature research on two topics corresponding to the research questions, (2) a focus group interview with paediatric hospital nurses, (3) observation of the communication between paediatric nurses and children/parents through shadowing, (4) individual interviews with paediatric nurses and (5) a focus group interview with experts. Findings: The initial study revealed that a variety of communicative challenges influenced the care of migrant paediatric patients (Kaufmann et al. 2020). The results also highlighted which requirements communication aids should fulfil, in order to increase their acceptability by nurses, paediatric patients and their relatives. Using case examples, this paper focuses on these requirements, for the design of sustainable communication aids. Von der Krisenkommunikation in Pandemiezeiten über den Einfluss von Design auf die Funktionsfähigkeit von Intensivstationen bis zu den Arbeitsbedingungen des Ge­ sundheitspersonals: Der Wissenschaftsblog «Learning from Corona» (https://hccd. hypotheses.org) behandelt Themen rund um das Design in der aktuellen Pandemie sowie Fragestellungen im Gesundheitswesen, die durch die Krise besonders sichtbar wurden. Der Blog wird von der Arbeitsgruppe Health Care Communication Design (HCCD) der Berner Fachhochschule betrieben, die interdisziplinär zu Fragen rund um Gesundheit und Gestaltung forscht. Seit April 2020 macht «Learning from Corona» anhand der aktuellen Pandemie die Expertise der Arbeitsgruppe HCCD einer breiten Öffentlichkeit zugänglich. Der geplante Speed­Talk präsentiert den Blog am Beispiel einer Beitragsserie zu Datenvisualisierung und Infografiken. Dabei werden historische Beispiele von Daten­ visualisierungen von Krankheit und Mortalität genauso thematisiert wie die visuelle Aufbereitung von komplexen Informationen anhand aktueller Beispiele rund um die Pandemie. Weitere Beiträge der Serie widmen sich datengetriebenem Journalismus sowie parodistischen Äusserungen im Look traditioneller Infografiken. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf den aktuellen Herausforderungen und Möglichkeiten zeitgenössischer Info­ grafiken.
