The goal of this paper is to provide a theoretically informed categorization of a variety of user involvement models in activation services. The classification is based on an explorative (and not exhaustive) review of the literature on approaches and current practices of user involvement with a particular focus on participatory models and processes in the context of (labour market) integration of long-term unemployed and welfare recipients.
