Given the changes of association activity by young people in recent years it remains publicly and scientifically controversial, what the reasons for these developments could be. In the course of theoretical debates about the individualisation thesis therefore the following contribution explores of how youth association activity in general and in specific association types in particular are related to lifestyle, attitude and life circumstances of the young people. The findings indicate strong correlations between lifestyle, attitudes and activities in associations. In contrast, cultural, social and economic capital (as proxy for life circumstances) of young people is comparatively less important.
