Personal alarm devices (pA) can support elderly people with their wish to live at home for as long as possible. However, pA are still barely used by elderly people in their everyday lives. Therefore, it is important to understand which factors on the part of the elderly person, influence everyday usage. A qualitative secondary analysis of 21 focus groups including elderly persons, their relatives and home care nurses and 11 semi-structured individual interviews with general practitioners was conducted. The results show influencing factors in the dimensions of people, the environment and technology. Recommendations were derived from these identified factors, which enable nurses to support elderly people living at home as well as their relatives, in the use of pA.
