Shkumbin is in the third year of writing up his PhD thesis at the University of Bern in the topic of social participation and psychosocial well-being in older age, when he is conducting a mixed design study. He is currently working as a Doctorand and Scientific worker in the Center of Competence in Participatory Healthcare in Bern University of Applied Sciences, a research center which aims to integrate people with experiences of illness and their relatives in research as well as education and training. His academic interests lie in the fields of personality development and health in every age. Besides his life in academia, he is a writer and has written two novels until now.
