Phenomenology is considered a branch of qualitative research in nursing whose origins are grounded in philosophy. Several different research designs have emerged in nursing, among others research based on Heidegger’s philosophy. However, Heideggerian research is controversial and various ways exist. In this keynote, the Heideggerian research design and its employment in nursing are explored. Subsequently, recommendations for harmonization of this research design are provided as well as respective criteria for trustworthiness and rigor.
