The electric vehicle offers an additional benefit for the use of PV. The battery can replace the stationary batteries of PV installations. This offers lower costs, as the EV battery is huge and cheap, compared to stationary batteries in PV installations. In order to put the battery to good use, the EV needs to have a bidirectional functionality. The PV Lab of the Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH developed an electronic device for its Nissan Leaf to be able to inject the energy of the battery into the grid. The PV Lab also equipped an off-board solution for research and tests.
