Since 2007, the interdepartmental research group Health Care Communication Design (HCCD) at the Bern University of Applied Sciences has brought together researchers from the departments of Architecture, Wood and Civil Engineering, Health Professions, Engineering and Information Technology, and Business to form an interdisciplinary environment in which new ideas and concepts can be examined by a wide variety of experts under the idiosyncratic perspectives of each department; in this, they have been joined by researchers from the Bern University of the Arts (HKB). Their overarching focus is on how design, in its broadest interpretation, can serve as a means to improve the health of the individual and, in effect, of society as a whole.
