For some years now, in German-speaking Switzerland – similar to Germany – an expansion of (school) leisure activities has been observed, which children can attend in all-day schools after classes over lunch and in the afternoon. With the integration of lessons and leisure time, the field of action of social work in the school context is changing. In addition to opportunities for social work, all-day schools are associated with central challenges, which are presented in this article on the basis of research projects carried out in Switzerland and Germany. The findings discussed in these projects can serve as opportunities for reflection on social work and for the further development of its field of action in all-day schools as well as in the school context as a whole.
