Introduction: This study tries to understand how coach developers learn their knowledge. This reflexion is based on the model of mediated and unmediated learning situations (ICCE, ASOIF, & LMU, 2013) and is completed by Pineau (1983, réed 2012) who mentions the way of learning through experience and life. Moreover, the research made by Dominicé (2007) about the biographical components which are the double affiliation, the bifurcation and the completeness is also a central part of the study. The goal is to see how life stories can help to better understand the long term pathways of coach developers. Method: Two coach developers (H1, 38 years old and H2, 51 years old) took part in the project. Non-structured interviews based on the theory of life stories were made between February 2012 and June 2014. The data were analyzed with the learning situations (ICCE, ASOIF, & LMU, 2013) and the biographical components (Dominicé, 2007) theories. Results: The results always show an extract of the life stories of the coach developers and are completed by a personal interpretation and reflexion. They demonstrate that all kinds of learning situations are present during the whole life and the importance of unmediated learning situations and the faculty to manage what we don’t know is essential. Discussion & conclusion: As the literature (ICCE, ASOIF, & LMU, 2013) mentions it, every situation that we live is potentially a possibility to progress and to learn something new in a way of independent learning and emancipation. It’ll be then important to keep understanding the process that coach developers live to learn their professions of coach developers, senior coach developers and master coach developers.
